Why Is J. Prince talking now?

Rap-A-Lot Records, the monolithic, secret rap empire headquartered in Houston, Texas, has always been viewed with a unique admiration from the local music community. As a southern city less accessible to large recording companies like RCA, Capital Records, etc., many Houstonian artists took pride in their independence and ability to hustle to make ends meet. J Prince has quiet as kept, served as a beacon for legacy building, and proof that with the right amount of influence and respect, you can successfully build on your own.

Rap-A-Lot is still regarded with awe nearly 35 years after it’s inception, and now J Prince is breaking ground in new industries like writing and his latest endeavor as a wine producer.

In our discussion with J Prince, he quickly shared some insights about where he is as a man today. He explains why he is opening up about his life and shares which qualities he evaluates when seeking new artists.
